The Cadisen C7063 is a good example of why quartz watches should not automatically be dismissed if you develop an interest in mechanical watches. It is accurate, low-maintenance and gives you a proper chronograph without the cost or complexity that normally comes with a mechanical stopwatch movement. For someone looking for a smart everyday watch that still feels a little more interesting than a simple three-hander, it makes a lot of sense.
The case measures 42mm across and 49mm from lug to lug, so this is certainly not a small watch. It has a noticeable presence on the wrist, but at 12mm thick it remains relatively controlled for a chronograph. The 144g weight adds to that substantial feel, making it better suited to medium and larger wrists or anyone who actively likes a watch to feel solid.
Inside is a Japanese VD53 quartz chronograph movement. Quartz means the watch is powered by a battery rather than the movement of your wrist, giving it far more consistent everyday accuracy than most affordable mechanical watches and removing the need to reset it after a few days off the wrist. The chronograph adds a genuine stopwatch function, controlled through the pushers on the side of the case. This makes the additional subdials functional rather than simply decorative and gives the watch a much more technical appearance without making it difficult to use.
Above the dial is sapphire crystal with an anti-reflective coating. Sapphire is one of the specifications I particularly like seeing on an everyday watch because it is far more resistant to normal surface scratches than mineral glass. The anti-reflective coating also helps reduce glare when trying to read a relatively detailed chronograph dial in brighter conditions.
The case and bracelet are made from 316L stainless steel, with a concealed push-button clasp keeping the bracelet looking cleaner when closed. The luminous hands and hour markers use a strong green glow to improve visibility in low light, while the supplier also lists a screw-down crown.
Water resistance is rated to 5 bar, or 50m which comfortably covers rain, hand washing and the ordinary water exposure a watch experiences during daily life, although I would not personally recommend a 50m-rated chronograph specifically for regular swimming.
The C7063's strongest argument is practicality. Quartz accuracy, a chronograph function and sapphire crystal make it extremely easy to live with, while the stainless-steel construction and more formal dial design mean it can still work with smarter clothing. The main trade-off is size. At 42mm, 49mm lug to lug and 144g, this will feel substantial, particularly for someone coming from a smaller traditional dress watch. The 19mm bracelet width is also slightly unusual, meaning aftermarket strap choices may be more limited than they would be with a standard 20mm or 22mm fitting.
For someone who wants an accurate, low-maintenance everyday chronograph that can move comfortably between work and the weekend, though, the C7063 offers a compelling specification.
