A textured dial and integrated-style steel bracelet give the CADISEN C8242M a more distinctive look than a conventional three-hand watch. Its 40mm case, automatic movement and sapphire crystal make it an appealing everyday option, while the 100m water-resistance rating adds useful practicality.

The case measures 40mm across and approximately 50mm long, with a thickness of 12mm. The broad 23mm bracelet and listed weight of around 150g give the watch a solid feel on the wrist. It is a substantial design, so it may suit someone who likes a watch with noticeable presence rather than a light, understated one.

Inside is the NH35 automatic movement. It winds as you wear the watch and can also be wound through the crown. The seconds hand stops when the crown is pulled out to set the time, which helps with more precise setting. The movement also drives the date display. Unlike a quartz watch, it will stop if left unworn long enough for its stored power to run down, so you may need to reset the time and date when you put it back on.

The case and bracelet are made from 316L stainless steel. Above the dial is sapphire crystal with an anti-reflective coating. Sapphire is highly resistant to everyday scratches, while the coating is intended to reduce reflections and make the dial easier to see in brighter conditions.

The checkerboard-style dial gives the C8242M much of its character, adding texture without relying on extra sub-dials or complications. Luminous hands provide some visibility in low light, and the date display adds a useful everyday function.

Water resistance is rated to 100m/10 bar. This offers useful protection for everyday wear and swimming when the watch is correctly sealed. I would not describe it as a dedicated diving watch, and it is best to avoid operating the crown while the watch is wet or underwater.

For someone looking for an automatic watch with a more architectural, sporty design, the CADISEN C8242M brings together a textured dial, a solid steel bracelet and scratch-resistant sapphire. Its 40mm case gives it modern proportions, while the NH35 adds the mechanical character many buyers want from an automatic watch.

Worth knowing

The NH35 is an automatic movement with hand-winding and stop-seconds. The watch has a 100m/10 bar water-resistance rating; I’d describe it as suitable for swimming, not as a dedicated diving watch.
